India’s ‘Housefull 5’ Redefines Comedy with Record-Breaking Budget

by Chris Davies

Akshay Kumar and producer Sajid Nadiadwala are poised to make cinematic history with Housefull 5, set for theatrical release on Friday, June 6, 2025. According to industry insiders, the upcoming comedy is on track to become the most expensive comedy movie ever made in Indian cinema.

A Record-Breaking Budget

Housefull 5 has been produced with a staggering budget of ₹225 crore, excluding print and advertising costs. This figure eclipses the budgets of all previous Indian comedies, including Housefull 4 (₹165 crore) and Golmaal Again (₹142 crore). The film now ranks among the top three most expensive projects of Akshay Kumar’s career, alongside Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Sooryavanshi.

The movie was shot over a 90-day schedule, with substantial portions filmed aboard a cruise ship in international waters and the remainder on lavish sets in Mumbai. Featuring an ensemble cast of 19 renowned actors, the film’s logistics and scale added to its complexity and cost.

A Bold Vision for Indian Comedy

Sources close to the production have described Housefull 5 as one of the most difficult projects ever undertaken by Sajid Nadiadwala, who was determined to push the boundaries of Indian film industry standards. “He has made a lavish ‘killer comedy’ for the audience, without compromising on the costs,” the source revealed.

The ambitious scope includes multiple endings, a bold move that Nadiadwala has long envisioned. “With Housefull 5, we wanted to take a bold creative swing that hasn’t been done before internationally for any thriller film. The idea of having multiple endings, multiple experiences has been with me for 30 years,” Nadiadwala stated.

Genre-Bending Entertainment

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 aims to redefine the comedy movie experience. While the franchise is known for its slapstick style and colorful movie characters, this installment appears to blend spectacle with storytelling innovation, promising a unique cinematic journey for fans of the genre.

As anticipation builds for its June 6 release, Housefull 5 could mark a turning point not only for the franchise but also for the future of high-budget movie comedies in India.
