Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick are once again teaming up for the much-anticipated sequel Another Simple Favor, which takes the gripping, dark comedy to the scenic island of Capri, Italy.
The film’s newly released trailer teases a reunion between the two stars, with Stephanie Smothers (Kendrick) and Emily Nelson (Lively) journeying to Capri for Emily’s extravagant wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman. However, what begins as a glamorous celebration quickly spirals into a twisted tale of murder and deceit.
In a tense moment from the trailer, Emily confronts Stephanie, asking, “Do you think I invited you to get revenge for stealing my life and taking my kid away from me? You think I want to make you pay?” to which Stephanie sharply responds, “I don’t know. Do you?”
The sequel picks up with Emily having served her time in prison, while Stephanie has turned her tumultuous story into a bestselling book. When Emily crashes one of Stephanie’s book signings, she invites her to the wedding, setting the stage for a new series of deadly events. Another Simple Favor promises to deliver the same thrilling twists, biting humor, and high-fashion moments that made its predecessor a smash hit.
Lively’s latest project, It Ends With Us, was a box office success, grossing over $350 million worldwide despite controversies surrounding a legal dispute with director Justin Baldoni. Paul Feig, who returns as director for the sequel, has praised Lively as a “dream to work with,” sharing his admiration for her collaboration on the project.
The original film, A Simple Favor, released in September 2018, earned $53 million domestically and $97 million globally. Directed by Feig, the sequel also features a star-studded cast including Henry Golding, Andrew Rannells, Bashir Salahuddin, Michele Morrone, Elizabeth Perkins, and Allison Janney. A co-production between Amazon MGM Studios and Lionsgate, the film will premiere on Prime Video on May 1.
Feig returns to direct Another Simple Favor from a script by Jessica Sharzer and Laeta Kalogridis, with Sharzer also having written the screenplay for the original film, adapted from Darcey Bell’s 2017 novel.
The highly anticipated sequel will have its world premiere on March 7 as the opening title at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival.
