by Chris Davies

ComingSoon has an exclusive first look at the trailer for Killing Mary Sue, an intense new action movie that promises to captivate audiences this summer. Starring Sierra McCormick (The Last Stop in Yuma County), Dermot Mulroney (Anyone But You, Scream VI), Jake Busey (Stranger Things), and Martin Kove (Cobra Kai), the film is written and directed by James Sunshine and scheduled for release on June 13, 2025.

The trailer introduces viewers to Mary Sue Harper, played by McCormick, whose traumatic past shapes the film’s gripping narrative. After losing her father as a child, Mary Sue’s life takes a darker turn when her mother marries a wealthy and corrupt senator, Bradley Weiner (Mulroney). As Mary Sue becomes a dangerous liability, Weiner hires deadly assassins, portrayed by Busey and Kove, to eliminate her.

According to the official synopsis, “A corrupt senator arranges for the murder of his biggest liability, his erratic burnout step-daughter, only for her to unwittingly discover her natural talent as an untouchable killer.”

The movie also features a strong supporting cast, including Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints), French Stewart (Bob Trevino Likes It), Kym Whitley (Act Your Age), and Jason Mewes (Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back). Producers Jonathan Sachar, Larry Layfield, Patrick Durham, and Dave Lugo are behind the project, with Samuel Goldwyn Films handling distribution.

Sunshine, who made his directorial debut with Coronavirus Conspiracy in 2021 and has a rich production background on popular reality TV shows like Project Runway and Hell’s Kitchen, brings a unique edge to this action movie. “We’re excited to be working with Goldwyn; we think they’ll do a great job getting this unique and fun film out there for all to see and enjoy,” Sachar shared in a recent statement.
