HBO has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated crime drama Task, hinting at a tense and emotionally charged narrative that may spell doom for at least one central character.
Created by Brad Ingelsby, best known for the acclaimed Mare of Easttown, Task once again draws viewers into the gritty suburbs of Philadelphia. This time, the series tackles the shadowy intersections of crime and drug abuse lurking beneath a seemingly quiet community.
Starring Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey, the drama follows an FBI agent (Ruffalo) appointed to lead a newly formed task force composed largely of inexperienced officers. Their mission: to dismantle a spree of violent robberies orchestrated by a seemingly ordinary family man, played by Pelphrey. The trailer, set to the haunting tones of “Patience” by Guns N’ Roses, teases a high-stakes cat-and-mouse game filled with moral complexity.
The ensemble cast includes Emilia Jones, Jamie McShane, Sam Keeley, Thuso Mbedu, Fabien Frankel, Alison Oliver, Raúl Castillo, Silvia Dionicio, Phoebe Fox, and Martha Plimpton. Mireille Enos will appear in a recurring role.
Task is an original concept by Ingelsby, who serves as both writer and showrunner. He also executive produces alongside directors Jeremiah Zagar and Salli Richardson-Whitfield, as well as Mark Roybal and Paul Lee of Wiip, Mark Ruffalo, David Crockett, and Ron Schmidt. Nicole Jordan-Webber and Jeremy Yaches of Public Record serve as co-executive producers.
The series is set to premiere in September on HBO, with episodes available for streaming on HBO Max. While not a movie, Task promises cinematic storytelling and intense character drama worthy of the big screen.
