Vin Diesel’s Superhero Movie ‘Bloodshot’ Airs Tonight

by Chris Davies

A superhero movie starring Hollywood heavyweight Vin Diesel will be broadcast on television tonight, Friday, May 16.

While Diesel, 57, is globally recognized for his iconic portrayal of Dominic “Dom” Toretto in the high-octane Fast and Furious franchise, his filmography extends far beyond street racing and explosive action sequences. Over the years, he has built a diverse career that includes critically acclaimed and blockbuster roles alike.

Diesel made his cinematic debut in Strays (1997), a film he not only starred in but also wrote and directed. His breakthrough came shortly after with a role in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998). He further cemented his reputation with performances in Boiler Room (2000) and the family comedy The Pacifier (2005). In addition to his work in Fast and Furious, Diesel has headlined other action-heavy franchises such as XXX and The Chronicles of Riddick.

Tonight’s feature is Bloodshot (2020), a sci-fi action movie based on the Valiant Comics character of the same name. Directed by David S. F. Wilson, the film sees Diesel in the role of Ray Garrison, a U.S. Marine who is killed in action and later resurrected through an experimental program called “Bloodshot.” The program replaces his blood with nanotechnology, granting him superhuman strength, reflexes, and regenerative abilities.

As Garrison struggles to understand the nature of his rebirth, he begins to uncover a dark conspiracy and embarks on a mission for vengeance, driven by the loss of the woman he loved.

The cast also includes acclaimed actor Guy Pearce, Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell, and Talulah Riley.

Bloodshot was released in theaters on March 13, 2020, just days before the COVID-19 pandemic shuttered cinemas worldwide. The film made a swift transition to digital platforms two weeks later. While it received a lukewarm critical reception—scoring just 32% on Rotten Tomatoes—it has since found a more appreciative audience at home, earning a solid 78% audience score on the platform’s “popcorn meter.”

Whether you’re a superhero movie enthusiast or a Vin Diesel fan, Bloodshot offers a high-energy, visually driven viewing experience—now available to catch on television tonight.
