The latest slasher film Deathwoods is poised to make its mark in the genre, with an exclusive teaser trailer now previewed by Bloody Disgusting. The film, which is currently in post-production, brings a fresh spin to the classic slasher formula, offering viewers a bloody and chilling ride through the woods of Old Hickory, Tennessee.
Deathwoods, a feature-length slasher film, draws inspiration from iconic grindhouse horror films, evoking classics like The Burning, Madman, and Pieces. The film’s premise centers on a weekend camping trip that quickly spirals into a nightmare, as a group of friends find themselves stalked by a gruesome urban legend.
Set in the present day, the story follows Scott, a man struggling with post-breakup depression, who is encouraged by his friends, Kyle and Jessica, to embark on a weekend getaway. Their plan to lift Scott’s spirits by setting him up with Jessica’s friend, Michelle, takes a dark turn when the group becomes the prey of a horrific legend tied to the woods they are camping in. The small town of Old Hickory, Tennessee, is haunted by the gruesome tale of the Wallace family, whose tragic past birthed the terrifying legend of a mutated child lurking in the forest.
Deathwoods promises to deliver on its gore and terror with extreme bloodshed and chaotic mayhem, as hinted at by its creators. The film is helmed by Co-Directors Jake Kopronica (known for Purgatory Station and The House Among the Trees) and Deryk Wehrley (Crust, Watchdog), who also contributes to the film as a special effects makeup artist, ensuring the slasher delivers on its promise of shocking visuals.
Written and executive produced by Scott Conner, Deathwoods boasts a talented cast, including horror icons Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp, Victor Crowley) and LC Holt (You’re Next, VHS 2). Indie horror favorites KateLynn E. Newberry, Jessa Jupiter Flux, and Celeste Blandon join the ensemble, alongside heavy metal guitarist Miles Dimitri Baker of Ice Nine Kills in his acting debut. The film also stars Anthony Dain, Kellan Jackson, and MacKenzie Lee.
While a release date has yet to be announced, Deathwoods’s teaser trailer is sure to spark excitement among slasher fans craving a modern film that pays tribute to the bloody classics of the past.
