by Chris Davies

Universal Pictures has announced the release of How To Train Your Dragon, a live-action remake of DreamWorks Animation’s beloved 2010 animated film. Directed by Dean DeBlois, who also co-wrote the screenplay, the PG-rated movie brings the captivating world of Berk to life through a fresh live-action lens.

Set in the rugged, dragon-infested isle of Berk, the story follows Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, an inventive young Viking who stands apart from his fearsome, tradition-bound people. As the son of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup is overlooked and undervalued, but his life takes a dramatic turn when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unexpected bond challenges the deeply ingrained animosity between Vikings and dragons, revealing the misunderstood nature of these majestic creatures.

With the courageous Astrid Hofferson and the eccentric village blacksmith Gobber by his side, Hiccup embarks on a journey that defies centuries of fear and hatred. Together, they confront a looming threat that endangers both Vikings and dragons alike. As the stakes rise, Hiccup’s unique friendship with Toothless becomes the catalyst for change, leading the way toward peace and unity.

The film features a star-studded cast, with Mason Thames portraying Hiccup, Gerard Butler as Chief Stoick, Nico Parker as Astrid, and Nick Frost as Gobber. Additional cast members include Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, and others. Produced by Marc Platt, Dean DeBlois, and Adam Siegel, How To Train Your Dragon promises to deliver both breathtaking visuals and a timeless story of bravery and friendship.

Based on the first book in Cressida Cowell’s How To Train Your Dragon series, the film captures the spirit of the original animated film while offering a new take on the beloved tale. Audiences can look forward to its theatrical release on June 13, 2025.
