Lionsgate has officially released the first trailer for Good Fortune, the long-awaited directorial debut of comedian and actor Aziz Ansari. The movie, a whimsical blend of heart and humor, is scheduled to hit theaters on October 17.
Good Fortune follows the unconventional story of Gabriel (played by Keanu Reeves), a well-meaning but clumsy angel who intervenes in the lives of two drastically different men: a struggling gig worker portrayed by Ansari himself, and a wealthy venture capitalist, brought to life by Seth Rogen. The ensemble cast also features acclaimed talents Sandra Oh and Keke Palmer.
In an earlier statement, Ansari expressed admiration for Palmer’s performance, saying, “Keke is a delight to work with. I’m so happy she’s a part of our cast and even more excited to provide a quote for this press release announcing her casting.”
This movie marks a significant milestone in Ansari’s career as his first feature-length film behind the camera, following his critically acclaimed work on Netflix’s Master of None. The film is a co-production between Garam Films, Oh Brudder, Keep Your Head, and Yang Pictures, presented by Lionsgate in collaboration with Media Capital Technologies.
The production is helmed by Ansari, Anthony Katagas, and Alan Yang, with executive producers Christopher Woodrow, Connor DiGregorio, and Jonathan McCoy also contributing. Lionsgate’s Brady Fujikawa and Jon Humphrey are overseeing the project, while the studio’s deal was negotiated by Dan Freedman, Phil Strina, John Biondo, and Matt Leonetti.
Formerly titled Being Mortal, the movie was initially set for a 2022 release but was postponed following misconduct allegations involving original cast member Bill Murray. With those issues behind it, Good Fortune is poised to bring audiences a fresh take on redemption, chance, and the unseen forces that shape our lives.
Combining a stellar cast with a uniquely quirky premise, Good Fortune has already sparked buzz among fans of movie characters and movie genres that blend comedy with spiritual fantasy.
