Momoa and Samberg Team Up for Netflix Action Comedy

by Chris Davies

After solidifying his presence in the film industry with The Minecraft Movie alongside Jack Black, Jason Momoa—known for Aquaman and Fast X—is teaming up with comedian Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Palm Springs) for an untitled action comedy on Netflix. While details remain scarce, industry insiders reveal that the film’s story unfolds in picturesque Hawaii, promising a unique blend of action and humor.

Both stars are set to produce the project through their respective studios: Samberg’s Party Over Here and Momoa’s On the Roam. The screenplay is penned by seasoned writers Rob Klein, an 11-time Emmy nominee, and John Solomon, an eight-time nominee. Although a director has yet to be announced, anticipation is building for what could be a standout addition to Netflix’s growing lineup of action movies. For fans interested in the genre, action movie plots often balance thrilling sequences with sharp comedic timing, a formula this duo seems well-positioned to deliver.

Andy Samberg recently showcased his dramatic range in the docudrama Lee, directed by Ellen Kuras and starring Kate Winslet. He also wrapped production on The Roses, a dark comedic take on Warren Adler’s novel The War of the Roses. This satirical screwball comedy features a star-studded cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Olivia Colman, and Kate McKinnon, and explores the volatile dynamics beneath a seemingly perfect marriage.

Samberg is also set to star alongside Jean Smart in the romantic comedy 42.6 Years, directed by Craig Gillespie (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow). The film follows a man who wakes up after being cryogenically frozen for over four decades, only to seek out his long-lost love.

Jason Momoa, meanwhile, continues to juggle numerous high-profile projects. Besides the upcoming Netflix film, he is cast as Lobo in Gillespie’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and stars in the mini-series Chief of War, whose recently released teaser has garnered significant attention. Additionally, Momoa is part of the cast for the adaptation of Capcom’s iconic video game Street Fighter, acting alongside Noah Centineo and Andrew Koji.

With both actors bringing a diverse range of experience from comedy, drama, and action, this new Netflix movie promises to be an exciting fusion of talents.
