Tamil cinema icon Suriya has officially commenced shooting for his upcoming movie, tentatively titled Suriya 46, under the direction of acclaimed filmmaker Venky Atluri, best known for the box office hit Lucky Bhaskar. The announcement was made by Sithara Entertainments on social media, accompanied by a striking poster that showcases Suriya in a sleek semi-formal look, bearing the tagline, “And the Celebration begins.”
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), the production house wrote, “The first step towards celebration, emotion and entertainment. ‘Suriya 46’ shoot begins!” The post signals the start of what is anticipated to be a high-impact addition to Suriya’s filmography.
Joining Suriya in this film is rising star Mamitha Baiju, widely recognized for her performance in Premalu. Veteran actors Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon will also play key roles, enriching the ensemble cast. The movie’s music is being crafted by celebrated composer GV Prakash Kumar, while the visual tone will be shaped by cinematographer Nimish Ravi. The film is being produced by Naga Vamsi under the Sithara Entertainments banner.
This new project gains further attention due to the impressive success of director Venky Atluri’s previous movie, Lucky Bhaskar, which grossed over ₹110 crore globally following its October 2024 release. Starring Dulquer Salmaan and Meenakshi Chaudhary, the film earned critical acclaim for its nuanced portrayal of financial scams, marking it as a standout title in the movie genre.
Suriya was recently spotted in Hyderabad alongside his daughter Diya, where he attended the wedding reception of Akhil Akkineni and Zainab Ravdjee. Atluri was also seen accompanying the actor, further fueling buzz around their collaboration.
The actor’s most recent release was the Tamil film Retro, directed by Karthik Subbaraj, where he starred opposite Pooja Hegde. While the movie generated substantial pre-release excitement, it received mixed movie reviews and contended with fierce box office competition, ultimately achieving moderate success.
With a compelling cast, a proven director, and high production values, Suriya 46 is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated South Indian films on the horizon.
