“As One” Anime Film Set for August 22 Release

The highly anticipated anime film As One, a prequel to the 2018 arcade game Starwing Paradox, is scheduled for release in Japanese theaters on August 22. Along with the release date, a new teaser trailer and several key staff announcements have been revealed.

The newly disclosed team members include:

Scriptwriters: Shatner Nishida (Lupin III: Prison of the Past), Kana Matsui (Yōkai Watch ♪), and Masaya Honda (Boruto).

Mechanical Designer: Ippei Gyobu (Gundam Reconguista in G).

Studios: Honoo and Studio GOONEYS.

In addition to these updates, previously announced key staff include director Kobun Shizuno, known for his work on the Detective Conan movie franchise, and character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, best known for Evangelion and his role in designing the characters for Starwing Paradox.

Set two decades before the events of Starwing Paradox, As One explores the origins of the bond between high schooler Yo and robot mechanic Rako. The film delves into their first meeting and sets the stage for the game’s storyline.

For context, Starwing Paradox is a multiplayer mech battle arcade game developed by Square Enix, featuring animation from Sunrise. While the game was initially released in 2018, its online services were discontinued in late 2021.
