DreamWorks’ latest movie, the live-action remake of the 2010 animated blockbuster How to Train Your Dragon, dominated the South Korean box office during the weekend of June 6–8. According to Kobis, the Korean Film Council’s official tracking service, the film earned $4 million from 540,059 admissions across 1,645 screens, capturing a commanding 35.6% share of the market. This impressive opening pushed it ahead of the domestic success Hi-Five, which drew 400,746 viewers and grossed $2.7 million in its second weekend. Hi-Five has now accumulated a total of $7.8 million from 1.15 million admissions.
Following in third place, the Tom Cruise-led action sequel Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning saw a slight decline, bringing in $1.8 million from 256,857 viewers. Since its release on May 17, the movie has amassed a remarkable $21.7 million with over 3 million admissions.
South Korea’s own occult political thriller The Pact took fourth place with $1.3 million and 183,425 admissions, raising its cumulative total to $2.7 million. The weekend’s lineup also included beloved titles such as Lilo & Stitch, which earned $331,683 from 47,712 viewers, pushing its total to $3 million. The Korean drama Big Deal dropped to sixth place, generating $255,883 and reaching a $1.7 million total.
Australian supernatural horror Bring Her Back made its debut at seventh, pulling in $195,358 from 33,225 viewers, while Japanese animated films maintained a presence in the top ten. Magic Candies earned $74,448, totaling $247,004, and Colorful Stage! The Movie: A Miku Who Can’t Sing added $62,545 for a $361,064 running total. The re-release of Crayon Shin-chan: Crash! Scribble Kingdom and Almost Four Heroes rounded out the list with $40,737, bringing its lifetime Korean gross to $1.4 million.
Together, the top 10 films raked in $10.8 million over the weekend, a significant increase from the previous week’s $7.6 million.
