Push: Intense Home Invasion Horror Movie Arrives on Shudder

by Chris Davies

David Charbonier and Justin Powell, known for their chilling works The Boy Behind the Door and The Djinn, are set to return with their latest horror movie, Push. The film will premiere on the streaming platform Shudder on July 11, 2025, delivering a gripping new addition to the home invasion subgenre.

Push stars Alicia Sanz (El Cid) and Raúl Castillo (Smile 2), with Sanz portraying Natalie Flores, a pregnant realtor whose routine open house spirals into a nightmare. When a sadistic killer, played by Castillo, invades the property, Natalie faces a terrifying race against time as she goes into premature labor. Trapped in a situation that blends psychological terror with physical peril, she must fight to survive before giving birth.

Written and directed by Charbonier and Powell, the film is produced by Ryan Scaringe, with executive producers including Amy Lippens, Jilbert Daniel, Del Charbonier, Alicia Sanz, and Raúl Castillo. In an interview with Bloody Disgusting, Powell revealed that the idea for Push originated from Charbonier’s experience as a real estate photographer. Alone in a remote house during a shoot, Charbonier felt an unsettling vulnerability, imagining the dangers lurking in such isolation. This sparked the concept for a movie centered on fear within a domestic space.

Notably, the filmmakers emphasize strong female protagonists in their storytelling, a theme they deliberately explore in Push. Powell noted, “Beyond that, a lot of our stories, which you wouldn’t know based on our first two movies, I think really surround these really strong female leads. We’ve wanted to convey that for a while, and this was our first opportunity to actually jump in and do that.”

The film’s lean and intense approach has already earned praise. As I wrote in my review from the Sitges Festival for Bloody Disgusting, “Charbonier and Powell operate on a level that strips away all pretenses and excess, leaving nothing behind but a lean, mean home invasion thriller that plays like a breathless chase in a briskly paced 90-minute runtime.”

Fans of the horror genre can expect Push to combine the tension of a Scary Movie with the claustrophobic suspense characteristic of standout Horror Movie Plots on Shudder’s platform.
