Apple TV+ has released the intense teaser trailer for The Lost Bus, marking Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey’s first leading role in a movie in six years since 2019’s The Gentlemen. Adapted from Lizzie Johnson’s acclaimed book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire, this disaster thriller plunges viewers into a harrowing fight for survival.
Set in California’s Butte County, The Lost Bus centers on a wayward school bus driver (McConaughey) and a determined school teacher (America Ferrera) as they race against time to save 22 children trapped amid a devastating wildfire. The gripping trailer opens with McConaughey’s character navigating the treacherous landscape when a radio call alerts him to the emergency at Ponderosa Elementary.
The tension builds quickly as dramatic scenes flash—billowing smoke, emergency crews battling flames, and the bus speeding through an inferno—capturing the relentless urgency of the crisis.
Joining McConaughey and Ferrera are notable actors Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Danny McCarthy, and Spencer Watson, rounding out a strong cast that brings depth to this story of survival and courage.
Director Paul Greengrass described The Lost Bus as “a story of quiet heroism—of people coming together in the face of the unthinkable.” He emphasized the film’s tribute to everyday heroes whose bravery often goes unnoticed.
Scheduled for release on Apple TV+ and select theaters in Fall 2025, The Lost Bus promises a thrilling addition to the disaster movie genre, blending emotional storytelling with high-stakes action.
