Scott Cooper, acclaimed filmmaker known for his diverse contributions to the film industry, is gearing up for his next project following the near completion of his Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me from Nowhere. Cooper has secured a deal to write, direct, and produce an untitled contemporary crime drama for Amazon MGM Studios’ United Artists, collaborating once again with the label’s chief Scott Stuber.
Although project specifics remain tightly guarded, sources confirm that the film will be a two-hander set within the crime thriller genre, promising an intense and focused narrative. Stuber and UA’s Nick Nesbitt will join Cooper as producers, continuing the creative partnership that proved successful on Deliver Me from Nowhere.
Cooper’s journey from actor to celebrated director has been marked by a remarkable range of films. His breakout feature, Crazy Heart (2009), a country singer drama, earned widespread acclaim and secured Jeff Bridges an Oscar, firmly establishing Cooper’s talent behind the camera. Since then, he has ventured through multiple genres, including the gripping thriller Out of the Furnace, the Martin Scorsese-esque true crime saga Black Mass, and the sweeping Western Hostiles.
Deliver Me from Nowhere, set for release by 20th Century Studios on October 24, also spotlights Jeremy Allen White in what many predict to be a defining role in his career following his Emmy-winning performances on FX’s The Bear. The Springsteen film generated significant buzz at Cinemacon earlier this year, standing out as a potential awards contender amid a sea of big-budget titles.
Represented by CAA and Jackoway Austen, Cooper continues to cement his status as a formidable filmmaker in today’s evolving cinematic landscape.
