Peacock’s highly anticipated crime thriller M.I.A. is set to dive deep into Miami’s criminal underground, featuring a compelling cast led by recurring guest stars Tovah Feldshuh (Nobody Wants This, Funny Girl), Loretta Devine (P-Valley, Kingdom Business), Tyler Perez (Abbott Elementary, Rescue: High Surf), and Paul Ben-Victor (Nobody Wants This, The Wire). These additions join an ensemble including Shannon Gisela, Brittany Adebumola, Dylan Jackson, Maurice Compte, Danay Garcia, Cary Elwes, Gerardo Celasco, and Marta Milans, alongside guest appearances by Edward James Olmos, Billy Burke, and Sonia Braga.
Set against the vibrant and complex backdrop of South Florida — encompassing Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, and Monroe counties — M.I.A. centers on Etta Tiger Jonze (played by Gisela), whose family-run drug operation is pushed to the brink. Forced into uncharted territory, Etta must rely on her cunning and resilience to navigate the dangerous and often treacherous world of Miami’s crime scene.
Produced by MRC, known for Poker Face, the series is helmed by showrunner and executive producer Karen Campbell (Outlander, Dexter), with Alethea Jones (High Potential, Mrs. Davis) directing and also serving as executive producer. Bill Dubuque, co-creator of the acclaimed series Ozark, writes the pilot episode and shares executive production duties with Campbell and Jones.
M.I.A. follows a recent surge of television projects uncovering South Florida’s gritty film industry and crime thriller landscape, joining the ranks of Chris Brancato’s Hotel Cocaine for MGM+, the Sofia Vergara-led Netflix series Griselda, and the early seasons of Narcos, which focused on Pablo Escobar. These shows, along with Showtime’s Dexter and its Paramount+ spinoff Dexter: Original Sin, have helped cement Miami as a hotbed for crime narratives.
This series promises to add a fresh and intense chapter to the depiction of Miami’s underworld, combining sharp storytelling with a talented cast to create a must-watch crime movie event.
