Juan Pablo Di Pace’s Directorial Debut: Before We Forget

by Chris Davies

Actor Juan Pablo Di Pace, known for his roles in Mamma Mia! and Fuller House, steps behind the camera for the first time in the feature film Before We Forget. Co-directed alongside Andrés Pepe Estrada and executive produced by the late Norman Lear, this poignant coming-of-age movie explores themes of love, memory, and unresolved emotions.

Di Pace not only co-directs but also penned the screenplay and stars as Matias, an Argentine filmmaker grappling with finishing a deeply personal movie inspired by his first love. The story follows Matias’s relationship with Alexander, a Swedish boy he met at boarding school. The younger Alexander is portrayed by Oscar Morgan, with August Wittgenstein playing his adult counterpart. Their close friendship is abruptly interrupted when Alexander is expelled, leaving young Matias, played by Santiago Madrussan, with lingering feelings that resonate 25 years later.

Before We Forget unfolds across different periods in time, tracing Matias’s journey as he revisits his past with Alexander, rekindling the nostalgia and complexities of first love.

The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Araceli González, Marta Beatriz Maineri, Tomás Kirzner, Juan Cruz Márquez de la Serna, Fabián Mazzei, Sarah Parish, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Julia Bender, Krista Kosonen, Vittorio Di Pace, Lini Evans, Agustina Lecouna, and Joaquín Gaitan.
